Job Description
You are the head of the Camera Department. As a Cinematographer, a.k.a Director of Photography (DOP), your job is both very creative and technical and mainly focused on transforming the story of the Screenwriter and the vision of the film Director into visual storytelling. You create the overall look and mood of the film in regards to shots, lighting, composition and colors. Your photographic skills combined with the Director’s ideas for shots, make the magic of cinema and stir up the emotions of the audience .
Exceptional camerawork and lighting are put together by a cinematographer to enhance emotions and form the essence of cinematography.
Your subordinates are: 1st Assistant Camera (AC), 2nd AC, Grip & Light Technician
- Analyzing the screenplay, characters, and story structure and deciding on a visual approach with the director. You should suggest suitable lighting, angles, filters, and techniques to the director
- Selecting and sourcing required equipment, tools, and crew members
- Visiting locations and taking a series of test shots before deciding on the angles, camera equipment, lighting, and techniques that will be used to create the desired atmosphere of the film
- Working with the post-production team to ensure the desired effects are preserved and that the mood of the film is maintained through the color grading
- Leadership and people motivation (people understanding and empathy)
