Job Description

As a Production Designer, you will be responsible for developing the visual concept of the film. You will work with the Producer and Director to create a design style for sets, locations, graphics, props, lighting, costumes etc. A production designer is the head of the art department.

As an Art Director you work closely with the Production Designer and oversee the fulfilment of their visual concept. You work with the crew members of the Art department on the construction of sets, creation of costumes, and any other work.

As a Set Designer you arrange the space of the film set. You work closely with the Art Manager and Production Designer to develop a proper visualisation of the initial concept of the Production Designer.

  • Overseeing the overall look of the film
  • Managing the art department and its staff
  • Meeting the producer and director to discuss concepts and production requirements
  • Researching art history and background based on the film theme and plot in order to produce design ideas (e.g. costumes, props, special effects, make up, graphics)
  • Planning and monitoring the design budget
  • Researching, estimating and preparing a property list
  • Hiring and managing an art department team or teams (depending on the size of the production)
  • Determine how best to represent a concept visually
  • Determine which photographs, art, or other design elements to use
  • Manage graphic designers, set and exhibit designers, or other design staff
  • Review and approve designs, artwork, photography, and graphics developed by other staff members
