Job Description
In pre-production you as Script supervisor have to prepare a continuity breakdown. This is a document which analyses the script in terms of cast, actions, wardrobe and props in scenes and story days. Then you time the script.
Once the filming starts, you closely monitor what’s happening on screen to check no dialogue is overlooked and the actions and eye-lines of the actors match. You keep detailed written and photographic records of dialogue, action, costumes and props. You have to write down all camera and lens details and give the slate information to the 2nd AC.
You keep a progress report of each day’s filming called continuity notes, so the Director and Editor can easily find what’s been shot, which take is good, what are the mistakes etc. You watch for the chronology of each scene to be consistent and the story flow to make sense.
