Job Description

Are you crafty and have a passion for beauty and design, as well as a great eye for detail?
Well then, you can take up many roles in the film industry!

As a Make-up artist & Hairstylist you work closely with the Director on developing the hair and make-up style of the actors at each point of the story in order to create the desired look of their characters. Then, you meet with the Actors to test your ideas – fittings, putting on prosthetics, etc. These two jobs can be performed as one or as two separate professions, depending on the production’s scale. Remember, unless you create some special make-up effects - the better you perform, the less your make-up is noticed on screen.

As a Costume designer or a Wardrobe Stylist you draw the sketches of the actors' costumes, develop ideas for designs, fabrics, textures, colours, and ultimately draw up the final costume designs in synchrony with the characters specifics and the director’s vision. Afterwards, you rent, buy some parts of the costumes, or make them entirely from scratch.

As Wardrobe Stylist:

  • Reading the script
  • Meeting the Art manager and Production Designer to discuss concepts and production requirements
  • Researching art history and background based on the film theme and plot, and preparing a list with the required materials and fabrics for the costume making
  • Taking care of the costumes on set, and looking out for continuity errors in the wardrobe

As a makeup and hair stylist:

  • Reading the script
  • Designing each character’s look
  • Choosing the right products (professional HD series only) and applying make-up on the actors’ faces and bodies
  • Taking care of the actors’ hairstyle
  • Creating prosthetics for special effects

  • Team player
  • Communication skills
  • Creativity
  • Time management
  • Financial management

  • How to develop the visual effects based on the plot of the film
  • Basic make-up and costume for film knowledge
